Here's an unedited review by Karen S. of “Jesus The Pattern”

Suppose we’ve not been told the truth about the message Jesus came to share. In Theodore Cottingham’s “ Jesus The Pattern” you’ll discover a unique perspective on the life of Jesus that is essential for us to consider. Perhaps the message was not to follow, but to join. Possibly Jesus’ objective was to leave a pattern for us to adopt, without the intent that he be distinguished or exalted.

“Jesus The Pattern,” if approached with an open heart and open mind, proves to be transformative. If you’re ready to leave the constraints of religion and begin a journey toward liberation, this book is not just a must-read, but a crucial one. If you don’t ascribe to religion but want to know more about the man who was Jesus and how his life mirrors ours in this current day, this book is for you.

The book begins with a review of Jesus’ younger years and sets the foundation for Jesus’ developing relationship with his father, our father, the father we share with him. Jesus “interacted with father directly, Jesus learned father’s love, father’s heart and how father desires to show us the kingdom of heaven so all will enter it in the here and now.” Jesus learned to “distinguish the voice of his father and let our father teach him directly,” all things. Jesus “learned how to learn and let the Father’s words transform him.”

In John 10:30 Jesus said "I and my Father are one.” Jesus taught us that we also can be taught directly by our Father and that this practice is fundamental to his teachings. In John 10:20-23” I pray also for those who believe in me through their words, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me as I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them as you have loved me.” Is Jesus’ message that we are his brothers and sisters, equal with him, all being one with Father? Can we now relax into the love our Father has equally for all?

Jesus invites us to be part of and understand the privilege that is in being in unity with him and the Father. Jesus never elevated himself above, he taught us to become. “Jesus The Pattern” shows us that Jesus’ desire was for us to recognize who we are and to actively participate in a personal relationship with our Father. One that he facilitates, as he is our brother. “Jesus The Pattern” shows us that “Every person on Earth is your brother and sister” regardless of religion and background. We have a choice to remain separate from God, as in religion, or become one with him as we were in the beginning. Jesus taught us that we can have a direct relationship with our father, by choosing to follow the template Jesus set before us. We too, can become like Jesus and become one with our Father. This, he taught, encouraged and patterned as the only way. “We become the true us that we were all the time; taught in subjection no longer; we honor the Christ to become it.”

“Jesus The Pattern” provides insight into Jesus’ life, his heart and his intentions, and offers a fresh perspective, one that is clear and concise. The reader comes away with generational questions  answered.

Jesus’ true message applies to this day, never to be lost in translation again. Jesus’ love for us is laid bare for the reader to take in. This book proves, not only to be life-changing on a personal level, but disrupts the very foundation of our collective identity.
